About the Department

The Department of Commerce at Khandra College is an academic unit of Khandra College, located in Khandra, West Bengal, India. Initially the Department was affiliated with The Burdwan University, Purba Burdwan and presently it is affiliated under Kazi Nazrul University (KNU), Asansol, Paschim Burdwan. Established to meet the growing demand for Commerce Education in the region, the Department of Commerce offers comprehensive courses designed to prepare students for careers in business, finance, and related fields.

The Department of Commerce launched its journey in 1985 as Pass course and it obtained approval for introducing Commerce as Honours subject in 1995. After Bengali and English, there is demand amongst students for opting Accountancy as Honours subject. There are at present 190 sanctioned seats for Honours/4 yrs. Commerce Graduates and 250 for Program/3yrs. Commerce Graduates. There are three full time teachers and two SACT teachers in the Department. Multidisciplinary classes are taken by concerned departments.

The student scoring highest marks in the Honours papers in the final Year Examination is awarded medal (Manoj Patra Swriti Award) by the College. Besides teaching, the Department organizes class wise seminar, PPT Presentation, debate and prepares students for Quiz competition and Group discussion, so that they can keep pace with the time. The students can express their views independently through their writing in the wall Magazine and teachers guide them properly in this regard. Above all, the faculty members are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campuses and when required. Consequently, students get through the final examination with flying colours every year and go for further higher studies.
